Connecticut River - Pittsburg

The Connecticut River flowing out of Pittsburg, New Hampshire is one of the finest fly fishing destinations in the Northeast. While the “Trophy Stretch” above Lake Francis is often the most popular destination, Top Notch Fly Fishing LLC focuses most of our guiding on the river below Lake Francis and South of Pittsburg. The cold tailwater stretch flowing from Murphy Dam is arguably one of the finest trophy trout waters in the Northeast. Here brown and rainbow trout can exceed 15 pounds in size. The river is a mix of wild and stocked/holdover brown and rainbow trout, with the occasional stocked brook trout in the mix. Cold water from Murphy Dam maintains a constant cool water temp throughout the season, and anglers can expect to catch fish at any time of the open season from January 1st to October 15th. Full and half-day wade trips available. This is a great destination for anglers looking for a place to fish in the early season or during the heat of the summer. Anglers can expect abundant insect hatches and selective fish. Spring and Fall also sees opportunities to throw streamers for the brown trout of a lifetime.

As of 2022, Top Notch Fly Fishing LLC no longer offers float trips to the Connecticut River. We would be happy to refer any float inquiries to one of the other guide services we recommend.
