The Connecticut River flowing out of Pittsburg, New Hampshire is one of the finest fly fishing destinations in the Northeast. While the upper river is often the most popular destination, Top Notch Fly Fishing LLC focuses most of our guiding on the river below Lake Francis and South of Pittsburg. The cold tailwater stretch flowing from Murphy Dam is arguably one of the finest trophy trout waters in the country. Here Brown and Rainbow trout can exceed 15 pounds in size. The river is a mix of wild and stocked/holdover brown and rainbow trout, with the occasional stocked brook trout in the mix. Cold water from Murphy Dam maintains a constant cool water temp throughout the season, and anglers can expect to catch fish at any time of the open season from January 1st to October 15th. Full and half-day wade trips available. Below Pittsburg, the Connecticut flows through the Dam at West Stewartstown. Here the river widens, slows and warms and becomes a float-fishery. Stocked rainbow trout dominate the river, but a healthy population of big-wild brown trout is also present. The river has good hatches and offers excellent dry fly fishing, with the highlight being the late summer/early fall terrestrial season. Full day floats available only.
